Is Dark Web A New Heed For Criminals?

The darknet or dark web is the encrypted part of the internet, which cannot be tracked or kept under an eye by the government agencies and law enforcement agencies and every day an increasing number of criminals are using the dark web as their shield against the law enforcement agencies. It was first made for espionage by the armies and even professionals who have a concern about their privacy from the surveillance of government agencies and law enforcement agencies. But in today’s world, these Dark net Links are widely used for and by the criminals to safeguard themselves from the punishment from the law enforcement agencies.

These criminals shop for software from the darknet that helps them to remain anonymous. The dark web or the hidden wiki links which have .onion sites links are a part of the deep network, the non-indexed portion of the internet and it cannot be accessed by standard search engines such as Google and these sites need Tor browser to be reached to them. The most significant feature of the darknet is that the users’ identity is hidden under the shield of encryption system and that is one of the reasons why illicit products like weapons and drugs are widely available on Dark net Sites Links for selling and buying.

According to Harsha Malvi, who is the app developer and cofounder of TBG Labs, the Deep Web Links and Web Sites comprises as much as 65-75% of the World Wide Web. The tools which are needed to commit cybercrimes and cyber frauds are being traded openly on the darknet, as per cyber crime police station inspector M Chandrappa. Deputy Superintendent at the cyber crime police station of CID MD Sharath said that it was difficult for them to determine the frequency of usage of such software by the criminals.  Authorities which are fighting cybercrime in Bengaluru say that most of the cases were not detected there are chances that more criminals would be associated with such crimes very soon in the future. While investigating a case recently they have noticed that a suspect agreed that he downloaded software from the dark web to save himself from the police, the software helped him to mask his number and prevent it from being traced, as per police reports.

Experts say that this darknet can be traced, thanks to the constant hard work the law enforcement agencies are putting in to make sure that the national security is not at stake. The police department would need particular infrastructure for this, which includes specialized training and the correct information at the right time.  Security researcher and policy officer of the Centre for Internet and Society, Karan Saini has stated that the primary attempt to track unconventional online behaviour would need development of new methods paired with formal on-job training, primarily malicious criminals who use the Tor network to carry out the illicit activities that are conducted on the darknet to save the criminals’ backs from the rule of law and government.
